About the Project

Moving to a new country and starting a fresh chapter may be an intimidating and stressful experience. Luckily, new immigrants are receiving all the assistance they require while their immigration process. However, no one is preparing them for the challenges of ordinary living. While some are able to rely on Israeli friends and family who are familiar with the system, not everyone is that lucky. Therefore, we have designed an app for immigrants who are coming to Israel and need guidance and support every step of the way. Our app will have all the necessary information to integrate new immigrants, also known as "Olim Khadasha", into Israeli community as seamlessly as possible.

Our Design process

The Problem

Immigrants often struggle to find the information and resources they need when settling in a new country, particularly if they are not familiar with the language and culture. This lack of information and guidance can leave immigrants feeling isolated, overwhelmed, and unsure of how to navigate their new surroundings. "Olim Hadashim" which in hebrew translates as new immigrants struggle a lot in the beginning and even in later stages of their immigration to Israel, especially because of bureaucracy and language barrier.

The Solution

We have designed an app that:

  • Translates everything in 4 languages: English, Hebrew, Russian and Spanish.

  • Has Information page with different topics with full answers.

  • Has Community where people can ask questions and get answers, as well as private chats.

  • Has integrated Hebrew dictionary.

  • Allows you discover different events happening in Israel, as well as news section.

  • Easy to use, straightforward, minimalistic, all-inclusive.

  • Has both light mode and dark mode versions.

Our Competitors

  • Janglo.net - offers services and daily attractions but doesnt provide official information/ institutions

  • GOV.il - Governmental website, has all the information, can set appointments and submit documents, however, the information is general, not updated and the English translation isn’t good.

  • Anglolist - Doesn't have updated information, unintuitive and not user friendly.

  • Nefesh be nefesh - Most helpful for people who just did aliya or in the process of it.

  • Jewish agency - More specified in the “Aliyah” process rather than in daily bureaucratic challenges in Israel.

Interviews Results

  • All of our respondents obtain their information via family/friends who speak Hebrew or from Google Translate.

  • They all agreed that the assistance provided by the officials is difficult and ineffective, and that this would be their last option if they needed assistance.

  • They all agreed that they don't understand the roles of institutions and how the system operates.

  • Furthermore, they believed that dealing with bureaucracy would be less frustrating if they had an explanation of the purpose of the institutions or the rationale behind particular papers they need to provide.

Some quotes:

“I am always finding myself translating whole websites
pages because the are no English version or I can’t get
the information I’m looking for….”

“Every time I would approach an institute they
would just spin me around from one place to another. I
Always had to figure it out by myself. If this was something I could
postpone/ deny I would leave it.”

“I wouldn’t be able to deal with it without friends
who speak Hebrew.”

Persona

User Journey Map

User Scenario

As an “Ole Hadash”, I want to know about my rights so I can get my benefits from them. I have moved to Israel recently and I still do not understand all of my benefits being Ole Hadash. I have tried approaching different institutions and seek help from people, but in vain. I feel very confused, exhausted, and overwhelmed with information, I need constant guidance and support in my process of integration.
Institutions are providing with more general informations which is helpful to some extent but I need more specific and detailed information that concerns particularly me and my situation. I got recommended to use an app called ILBI. My motivation is to use the app and maybe find people who have same or similar struggles and get advices and information I am looking for quickly and easily.

Community page

Home Page

We designed the home screen simply because users would navigate the app from this screen. We wanted the interface to be clear, and at the same time to make sure that what might be useful is visible at a glance. Home page has six buttons: Information, Dicover, Dictionary, Useful apps and news. Also, there is a clickable word of the day that updates every day with a new word so that users can learn new words just by entering the app. In community section users can ask questions and get answers easily.
